China, with its ethnic diversity of 56 nationalities,is one of the most developed countries regarding traditional medicines,comprising a variety of splendid cultures. In addition to Han medicine, such nationalities like Tibetan, Uygur, Mongolia, Dai, Hui, Zhuang, Miao and Yao have their ethnic traditional medicines, which have collectively contributed to the magnificent civilization of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and the prosperity of Chinese people as well as people around the world. TCM and other traditional medicines of different countries worldwide have the same origin,such as Asian and European countries (especially countries along the Belt and Road) traditional medicines. They have an intimate relationship with TCM, playing a pivotal role in human civilization of traditional medicine. As a great political idea and primary national strategy, the Belt and Road has provided a new background of development and innovation as well as a new opportunity of mutual communication for TCM.
In order to inherit and develop TCM, support and promote the development of TCM, and improve public health, the People’s Republic of China promulgated the Law of the People’s Republic of China on Traditional Chinese Medicine on December 25th, 2016. The general principles of the law defines that TCM is the generic terms of all ethnic medicines including Han and other ethnic medicines, the reflection of the acquaintance of the Chinese people about life, health and disease, and the medical system with a long history and distinct theories and techniques. TCM is an important part of medical and health services in our country. In order to firmly develop TCM and pay equal attention to TCM and modern medicine, the government has established the management regulations adapted to TCM so as to exert the effect of TCM on the medical and health services in our country. The government also encourages the mutual learning and harmonious development of TCM and modern medicine so that they could amplify advantages, promote the integration of TCM and modern medicine and impel the development of medicine.The Institute of Integrative Medicine of Fudan University, which has devoted itself to promoting the mutual acquaintance, integration, and improvement among traditional ethnic medicines for long, has held five academic meetings on International Academic Conference on Comparison of Traditional and Modern Medicine. The conference aims to promote the comparison, inheritance, development and convergence of different ethnic traditional medicines and modern medicineso as to further propagate the culture of ethnic traditional medicines, carrying forward the advantages of diagnosis and treatment with the integration of TCM and modern medicine, expanding the influence of TCM at home and abroad, strengthening the international academic communication and cooperation, and promoting the convergence of TCM and modern medicine. The 6th International Academic Conference on Comparison of Traditional and the Study Program on New Advances of Integrative of Traditional and Modern Medicine for Diagnosis and Treatment of Respiratory Diseases, which are hosted by Fudan University, Institute of Integrative Medicine of Fudan University,Huashan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University, Committee of Respiratory Diseases in Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine,Health and Family Planning Committee of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Prefecture, Ruikang Hospital Affiliated to Guangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine,International Zhuang Medicine Hospital Affiliated to Guangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Committee of Respiratory Disease of Guangxi Association of Integrative Medicine, Uygur Medicine Professional Committee World Federation of Chinese Medicine, Xinjiang Medical University, Xinjiang Uygur Medical College,Administration of TCM of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Prefecture, Inner Mongolia International Mongolian Hospital , Administration of TCM of Gansu Province, Tibetan Medicine Professional Committee World Federation of Chinese Medicine, Goluo Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Qinghai Province, Hui Medicine Professional Committee World Federation of Chinese Medicine, Guizhou Qianxi’nan Autonomous Prefecture, West Yunnan University of Applied Science, and undertook by Institute of Integrative Medicine of Fudan University, Huashan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University, Health and Family Planning Committee of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Prefecture, Ruikang Hospital Affiliated to Guangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, International Zhuang Medicine Hospital Affiliated to Guangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Committee of Respiratory Disease of Guangxi Association of Integrative Medicine, will be held on December 7th-10th,2017. Alliance of Integrative Medicine Groups of Research Universities Working Meeting, International Alliance of Ethnic Traditional Medicine Working Meeting, Editorial Committee of Traditional and Modern Medicine Working Meeting will be held as well during the same period.
The aim of this international academic conference is to improve the academic communication platform of comparison studies between various ethnic traditional medicines and modern medicine, to promote the understanding, convergence and enhancement, to absorb the essence of different ethnic traditional medicines, and to prompt the systematic construction of TCM and the development of human civilization in medicine. Therefore, recognition, communication,comparison and convergence are the main purpose of this conference, and the principal theme is mutual understanding, enhancement of integration and promotion of convergence so as to make better contribution to human beings. Besides, the introduction of researches on medicine based on the theories of traditional medicines and those on natural drugs is also a vital content of this conference.
The aim of the Study Program on New Advances of Integrative Traditional and Modern Medicine for Diagnosis and Treatment of Respiratory Diseases is to discuss the advances in treating common respiratory diseases with TCM, modern medicine or the integration of them, including basic and clinical researches on pulmonary infection, bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), interstitial lung disease(ILD), bronchiectasis, pulmonary neoplasm, pulmonary vascular diseases, obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS), pulmonary embolism, pleural and mediastinal diseases, secondary pulmonary diseases and other respiratory diseases as well as relevant diagnosis, treatment and prevention. Furthermore, the treatment of rare and miscellaneous diseases, the experience of prominent TCM experts in treating the diseases listed above, the new ideas and methods from the integration of ethnic traditional medicines and modern medicine concerning the treatment and prevention of respiratory diseases as well as the research and development of drugs will also be involved.
The conference will provide academic communications upon the theme by invited lectures, seminars, academician forums, ethnic traditional medicines forums as well as poster communications, and simultaneously introduce the latest researches on new methods and drugs used in the diagnosis and treatment of common diseases from the aspects of both ethnic traditional medicines and modern medicine. At that time, a number of well-known academicians, professors and scholars will be invited to deliver speeches. The top-ranked experts in the fields of traditional medicine, modern medicine, integrative medicine as well as medical humanities will gather joyfully together with mutual understanding, communications and learning, leading to collective improvement. As the organizers of this conference, we would like to sincerely invite domestic and foreign experts and scholars engaged in researches with respect to history, anthropology, philosophy, clinical medicine, preclinical medicine and pharmacy to this conference in order to jointly promote the development of ethnic traditional medicines together with the construction of multi-ethnic TCM systems and to strengthen international academic communications, sparing no effort to further prompt the development of modern medicine.
A. The theme of the conferences
1. The theme of the 6th international academic conference on comparison of traditional and modern medicine:
The history of ethnic traditional medicines across nationalities, cultures and countries
1) Explore and compare the history, the humanistic characteristics as well as the basic theoretical systems and important concepts of different ethnic traditional medicines along with the theoretical basis and characteristics of ethnic drugs so as to gradually make clear their similarities and differences. 2) Explore and compare individualities and generalities of various ethnic traditional medicines and modern medicine in the understanding and intervention of diseases so as to develop and gather different ethnic traditional medicines, leading to the advancement of TCM and human civilization inmedicine.
2. The theme of the Study Program on New Advances of Integrative Traditional and Modern Medicine for Diagnosis and Treatment of Respiratory Diseases:
Present and discuss new advances and theories of TCM, modern medicine and the integration of them intreating and preventing common respiratory diseases so as to promote the development of medicine. The deputy group leaders and group leaders meeting of specialties of Committee of the Respiratory Diseases of Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine will be held at the same time.
3. The theme of the Alliance of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Groups of Research Universities Working Meeting:
Discuss the operating mechanism of the Alliance of Integrative Medicine Groups of Research Universities and establish the research targets so as to solve major medical problems together.
4. The theme of the International Alliance of Ethnic Traditional Medicine Working Meeting:
Discuss the operating mechanism of International Alliance of Ethnic Traditional Medicine, promote and implement the polities of the Belt and Road, and the Healthy Silk Road.
5. The theme of Editorial Committee of Traditional and Modern Medicine Working Meeting:
Prepare to launch the magazine.
B. The contents of articles
1. The contents of articles for the 6th international academic conference on comparison of traditional and modern medicine:
1) Articles with respect to the structure of various ethnic traditional medicines (Han, Tibet, Uygur,Dai, Mongolia, Hui, Zhuang, Miao and Yao, etc.) are required, including clinical practice, cultural characteristics, classical philosophy, religious characteristics and the evolution of historical backgrounds.
2) Articles with respect to the advance and comparison of understanding and intervening vulnerable diseases from the aspects of both ethnic traditional medicines and modern medicine.
3) Articles with respect to the research and development of traditional drugs (Han, Tibet, Uygur, Dai, Mongolia,Hui, Zhuang, Miao and Yao medicine, etc.) and natural drugs are required.
Please make sure that your articles are insightful, thoughtful and academic so as to lay the foundation for an academic conference with high quality.
2. The contents of articles for the Study Program on New Development of Integration of Traditional and Modern Medicine for Diagnosis and Treatment of Respiratory Diseases:
1) The characteristics and advances in treating and preventing common respiratory diseases with ethnic traditional medicines or modern medicine.
2) The characteristics and advances in treating and preventing common respiratory diseases with the integration of TCM and modern medicine.
3) The diagnosis, treatment and prevention of respiratory diseases.
4) The diagnosis and treatment of rare and miscellaneous respiratory diseases with the integration of TCM and modern medicine.
5) The preclinical,clinical researches as well as the research and development of new drugs concerning the treatment and prevention of respiratory diseases with the integration of TCM and modern medicine.
C. Ways of communication
1. Well-known academicians, professors and scholars from home and abroad will be invited to hold seminars and deliver speeches.
2. Special meetings like “academician forums” will be held during the conference.
3. Articles submitted will be presented in invited lectures, conference speeches, seminars, poster presentations.
4. All the articles will be included in the conference proceedings.
5. Excellent articles might be published in academic journals at home and abroad.
D. Languages for the conferences
The language used in the 6thInternational Academic Conference on Comparison of Traditional and Modern Medicine is English, but slides in both English and Chinese are required. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided for attendees that have difficulties in communicating with others in English.
The language used in the Study Program on New Development of Integration of Traditional and Modern Medicine for Diagnosis and Treatment of Respiratory Diseases is Chinese.
E. Requirements for articles
The articles should meet the following requirements:
1. Articles unpublished in journals at home and abroad are eligible.
2. Articles submitted should be written in English (with both Chinese and English abstracts attached). Articles written in Chinese, Uygur, Tibetan or other languages are acceptable under some conditions, but English abstracts in about 300 words are required (articles written in non-Chinese should contain Chinese abstracts at the same time). The topics, authors, working places,corresponding addresses and zip codes should be noted clearly in articles.
3. Articles should be in the format of Microsoft Word with 12 font size, 1.5 line spacing and standard word spacing.
4. Articles should be e-mailed to jcdong2004@126.com as the attachment.
5. People with no access to the Internet, please send your articles in floppy disks to the conference secretariat of the organization committee.

I. Fee for the conferences
The conference of the 6th international academic conference on comparison of traditional and modern medicine will charge 200 dollars or 1200 RMB. The Study Program on New Advances of Integrative Traditional and Modern Medicine for Diagnosis and Treatment of Respiratory Diseases will charge 1200 RMB (Note: 800 RMB for representatives from Guangxi). The fee for both conferences will refer to the international conference on practice. The material fees and meal fees are included,while accommodation fees are NOT.
J. Credits granted
Attendees of the 6th international academic conference on comparison of traditional and modern medicine or the Study Program on New Advances of Integrative Traditional and Modern Medicine for Diagnosis and Treatment of Respiratory Diseases will begranted 10 scores as ClassⅠcredits.
