The 1st “Fusion Cup” Academic Forum
All graduate students:
In order to implement the development strategy of TCM，to carry forward the spirit of Law of the People’s Republic of China on TCM, and to strengthen academic communication among young scholars, to encourage young scholars, such as master, doctor, post-doctor, etc., to pay more attention to and engage in the study of “Three Fusions” (the fusion of traditional medicines of various ethnic groups in China, the fusion of traditional medicines of various nations in the world, the fusion of TCM and modern medicine) and obtain more meaningful and even innovative achievements in the study of “Three Fusions”, “Fusion Cup” Academic Forum and Excellent Dissertation Selection of Young Scholars will be held in the same period as the 7th international academic conference on comparison of traditional and the modern medicine after deliberation by Institute of Integrative Medicine of Fudan University, Huashan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, WHO Fudan University Collaborating Centre for Traditional Medicine, School of International Relations and Public Affairs, Fudan, Fudan University Department of History, Fudan University Department of Psychology, Traditional medicine and Modern medicine magazine , Committee of Respiratory Diseases of Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine and Chinese Association for Research and Advancement of Chinese Medicine , TCM chapter, Committee of Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine.
The 1st “Fusion Cup” Academic Forum and Excellent Dissertation Selection of Young Scholars will be held on October 20, 2018 in Dunhuang, Gansu Province. Notifications are as follows.
The purposes of this activity
To comprehensively display the research results of the “Three Fusions” and demonstrate the academic research results and innovative spirt of master, doctor, and postdoctor; To build a multi-disciplinary, high-level, deep integrated communication platform of traditional medicine and modern medicine;To arouse young researchers 's enthusiasm for academic research of traditional medicine and modern medicine; To cultivate a new generation of medical professionals who have the awareness of the Chinese nation community, the concept of “Integrated Chinese Medicine”, “Integrated Traditional medicine”,“Trichotomy” and “Five Elements”, and practice the “Three Fusions”.
“Traditional Chinese medicine” collectively refers to the traditional medicine of ethnic minorities based on the Chinese nation’s community, including Han medicine, Tibetan medicine,etc. “Integrated Traditional medicine” is to build a new traditional medicine system in respect of the common characteristic of tradional medicines and a the community with shared future for humanity. “Trichotomy”,the basic structure of TCM, comprises the following three parts: 1）The part that is consistent with modern medicine;2）The part that is superior to modern medicine;3）The part that is inferior to modern medicine (that is something needed to be reconsidered and even abandoned). Traditional medicines of different ethnic groups are more similar than differences. Each of them is an organic comples of clinical experience, classical philosophy, regional culture, several community concepts, and original basic medical knowledge. This is the “Five Elements of TCM”.In terms of “Three Fusions”, first, it refers to the integration of the traditional medicines of various ethnic groups in China, aiming to establish a new system of Chinese traditional medicine based on the Chinese nation community. Second, it refers to the integration of the traditional medicines of all nations in the world, aiming to establish a new system of traditional medicine based on the world nation community.Third, it refers to the integration of TCM and modern medicine, aiming to explore and enrich TCM and develop modern medicine by using technologies, theories and methods of modern science and modern medicine.
Objects of appraisal, scope of essay and language of essay
1. Objects of appraisal: Excellent papers with high innovation, academic value and academic influence written by graduate students and recent graduate ones. The submissions for the election should be academic researches that are being carried out or have been completed, and the submission has not been published and awarded other awards. Those that have been published in public journals or won awards at the provincial or ministerial level are not included.
2. Scope of essay:
1) Innovative results in medical theory research, clinical research, experimental research, etc. related to “Integrated Chinese medicine”, “Integrated Traditional medicine”,“Trichotomy”,“Five Elements” and “Three Fusions”.
2) Innovative Research on Humanities and Social Sciences related to “Integrated Chinese medicine”, “Integrated Traditional medicine”, “Trichotomy”, “Five Elements” and “Three Fusions”.
3. Language of essay：Articles submitted should be written in official language or English (with both Chinese and English abstracts attached).
The rewards setting
Awards:
1 special prize, 2 first prize, 5second prizes and 10 third prizes , the bonus is RMB 15,000, RMB 10,000, RMB 5,000, and RMB 2,000 respectively.
Excellent papers may be given priority to publish in the Traditional medicine and Modern medicine magazine according to the author's wishes. Players in the ultimate evaluation stage are eligilbe to participate in the 7th International Academic Conference on Comparison of Traditional and Modern Medicine for free.
The way of selection
1. Due to the long-term nature of the event and to ensure the fairness of the selection, we intend to set up an evaluation office and an evaluation committee. The office is responsible for organizing the daily work of the forum and review. The evaluation committee is responsible for evaluating the articles. Evaluation committee is made up by senior experts who are well-known experts in the sponsoring, co-hosting, and undertaking organizations of the international academic conference on comparisons of traditional and modern medicine.
2. The evaluation criteria are based on the criteria for excellent dissertation selection held by the Ministry of Education and that of the National Natural Science Foundation/National Social Science Fund.
Main criteria are:
1) The research subject needs to be related to Chinese ethnomedicines or worldwide traditional medicine or the integration of traditional medicine and modern medicine (including humanities and social sciences) with theoretical or practical significance.
2) Research with theoretical innovation, method innovation, breakthrough achievement, good social interests or broad application prospect.
3) Submissions need to have informative materials, strict reasoning and accurate expression.

The procedure of selection
The winner list will be determined after the preliminary assessment, concealed assessment and the final on-sport report.
1. Preliminary assessment: the experts complete the screening of the submissions according to the basic requirements before September 5, 2018, and the elimination rate is about 20%.
2. Peer experts assess winning papers from the first stage, with authors’ names concealed, before September 25, 2018.(the winning papers in this stage are controlled within 30)
3. Winning authors of 30 papers will be notified to conduct on-spot report by October 1, 2018. Excellent papers may be given priority to publish in the Traditional medicine and Modern medicine magazine according to the author's wishes.
4. Spot evaluation: the evaluation committee will select the final winning papers based on the evaluation criteria in D.
5. Award certificates and bonuses.
